The scene was set. It was November of 1986 and the brand new event was called The Desert Princess Duathlon. Two 10K runs on either side of a tough 62K bike out in Palm Desert, California. The world’s top ranked triathlete, Scott Molina, going head to head against the world’s top ranked duathlete, Kenny Souza. When a youngster by the name of Brad Kearns knocked them both off, his world was changed forever. Brad came on to chat about that race, his career, and what came next. That was the year with “those” handlebars wasn’t it? or was that ’88?
February 87 at Desert Princess Duathlon was when Brad Kearns showed up with the first event DH handle bars and the rest is history.
For the record the Desert Princess bike course was a 62K – 38.6 miles
Brad was my first ever endurance sports coach. He is one of those legends that deserves so much more attention. Thanks for bringing him on the show!
