Powerbar and Balance Bar had just sold to larger companies and Gary Erickson was offered $120 million to sell Clif Bar. On the way to signing the papers and selling the company named after his dad, he had a change of heart and walked away from the deal. So instead of being $60 million dollars richer, he had to figure out a way to pay his partner, who wanted to sell, $60 million. Gary Erickson went from receiving $60 million to owing $60 million in the blink of an eye and he has never looked back!
