How big a factor is Bart Aernouts from Belgium going to be this year in Kona? Let’s start with the fact that he improved from 11th place in 2012 to 8th place in 2013, and last October he had the fastest marathon of the day in Kona with a 2:44:03. The former top duathlete has gone from an hour for the swim in 2012 to 57:26 last year and he’s hoping to be in the 54 or 55 minute range this time around. His training partner and Uplace-BMC teammate Ronnie Schildknecht feels that Bart is the very best in the sport when it comes to running off the bike. The big question: Can Bart Aernouts get off the bike close enough to the front to become the third Belgian to win the most important race in the sport?
