In 2004, Bob Kennedy lined up for the start of the New York City Marathon feeling like he was ready to run a 2:10 and continue on his career as one of America’s top distance runners. He went through the half that day and felt great, but by mile 18 he was struggling and realized that not only was his race over, his career as an elite runner was over as well. Bob came on to talk about going back to New York for some unfinished business ten years later and a running career where he twice appeared at the Olympic 5,000 meter finals, won four USATF 5,000 meter titles, held American records at 3,000, 5000, and two miles and was the first non-African to run sub 13 (12:58.21) for 5,000.
