Julie Dibens came from England to the U.S. to swim at LSU. Her early triathlons included racing the Danskin and the USTS Series. In her career she made two Olympic teams, raced in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, won three XTERRA World Championship titles and the 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Championship. In 2010 she was third in Kona and in 2011 she had a great swim and bike before her foot and knee injuries forced her to drop out. Julie is now coaching Rachel Joyce, among others, and she shared her thoughts on Rachel, on dealing with major injuries, and on her passion for mountain biking. She is flying a tad under the radar as we approach the Blueprint for Athletes Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race on Saturday August 15, which is rare for a woman who has always been one of the best at whatever she tries. Don’t be surprised if Julie turns out to be a major factor on race day.
