Matt “The Bear” Novakovich has been on an amazing athletic journey. Just like Ned Overend who ran cross country, did the Ironmnan, got into mountain marathons and road cycling before discovering his true calling on a mountain bike, the 41 year old Spartan Racing legend from Alaska raced the Steeplechase in College at BYU, ran the roads and the mountains, plus raced mountain bikes and road bikes before hearing about Spartan and knocking off the great Hobie Call in “The Bear’s” first ever Spartan Race in Virginia. The great thing about Spartan? A 150 pound athlete like “The Bear” can compete with a 200 pound athlete on what is hardly a level playing field. These events are about much more than speed. Power, strength, and smarts all play a major role when it comes to determining the world’s best Spartan. You’ll love “The Bear.” Awesome conversation!
