My long-time radio co-host Paul Huddle was finally back in San Diego after spending the past number of months working for Ironman in Europe. During this segment I interview Paul about the growth of the sport of triathlon in Europe, his background as a pro – he took sixth, seventh, and seventh in Kona – how he transitioned to his new gig and what he learned back in the day from training every day with six-time Ironman World Champion Mark Allen. He also admitted that he was a bit of a whiner as a pro wondering why he wasn’t making more money when he was training so hard every single day until the woman who was to become his wife, Paula Newby-Fraser, gave him the ultimate reality check. “She asked me what I had done to earn more money and more sponsors, what major events had I won,” he remembers. “She was absolutely right and the message stuck with me: Quit whining and start winning.”
