Scout Bassett is 4’9” tall and weighs all of 84 pounds. On a wall inside the Challenged Athletes Foundation headquarters, there is a classic photo of Scout back-to-back with NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, who is 6’11” tall. The quote next to the photo? “It’s not how big you are, it’s how big you play.” Scout lost her leg before she was a year old in a chemical fire. She was abandoned by her parents on the steps of an orphanage in China where she stayed until she was seven years old and was adopted by a family from Michigan. She weighed barely 22 pounds at the time and had gone through horrors you can only imagine. Scout has lived an amazing life and came in studio to explain to the world how you overcome even the toughest obstacles and ‘play big’ no matter how tall you happen to be.
