Austrian Alban Lakata was a two-time Blueprint for Athletes Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race champion (2012 & 2013) and the course record holder (6:04:01). In our pre-race Breakfast with Bob chat, Alban said he thought he was ready to take the course record down under 6:00. He is definitely a man of his word! Although he was two minutes down with about 10K to go, the Albanator dug deep and caught his Topeak Ergon teammate Kristian Hynek with less than 50 yards to go in the 100 mile classic that starts at over 10,000 feet and tops at 12,500 feet to capture his third title and, with his 5:58:35, to break his own course record and become the first person to break six hours in the history of the legendary event.
