For our Breakfast with Bob from Nice Edition, we chatted pre-race with the top 5 finishers at the 2023 Ironman World Championship.
Sam Laidlow
Sam Laidlow finished in 1st place at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. Here is our pre-race conversation:
We chatted with the reigning Ironman World Championship silver medalist Sam Laidlow about his experience of leading the Ironman World Championship in Kona last year, what he learned from it, and how he can improve. Sam also reflected on the year he’s had, the bad luck, the good races despite all the bad luck, and how it is all part of his journey.
Patrick Lange
Patrick Lange finished in 2nd place at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. Here is our pre-race conversation:
Patrick Lange is a two-time Ironman World Champion, and would love to make that 3. He’s done a lot of preparing, knows the bike course really well, and is energized by the new challenge of racing for the world championship in Nice. Patrick thinks this courses suits him better than Kona, and as he says: “It’s go time, and I am happy.” In other words: look out for Patrick on race day.
Magnus Ditlev
Magnus Ditlev finished in 3rd place at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. Here is our pre-race conversation:
Magnus Ditlev has won back-to-back Challenge Roth championships – going a blazing 7: 24: 40 this year – and is one of the big favorites here in Nice. In 2022, Magnus raced his first Ironman World Championship, finishing 8th, then backed that up with a 3rd place finish at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and a win at Ironman Cozumel.
Rudy Von Berg
Rudy Von Berg finished in 4th place at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. Here is our pre-race conversation:
You can say that Rudy Von Berg knows racing in Nice just a little bit. For the guy who did his first triathlon ever as a 6 year old here in Nice, grew up watching his dad race here, and won his Ironman debut here, he’s got a definite hometown advantage. Rudy estimates that he’s ridden on the bike course here 100 times. Add all that with the fact that he comes in here pretty fresh, after only racing twice this year, and you’ve got a recipe for a great day.
Leon Chevalier
France’s Leon Chevalier ended up finishing in 5th place at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. Here is our pre-race conversation:
Leon Chevalier just completed his studies in chemical engineering, so he has only recently been able to focus full time on training and racing in his life as a professional triathlete. In 2022, Leon finished 6th at the Ironman World Championship in St George, and 7th in Kona. Leon qualified for this year’s world championships with an early season win at Ironman South Africa which has enabled him to put all his energy toward Nice. He’s spent over 8 weeks training in the Alps, loves hilly technical bike courses, and is ready for a great race on Sunday.
